Renewable Heat Premium Payment

Following the introduction of the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (below) the Renewable Heat Premium Payment is now closed.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive has now been launched.

The Renewable Heat Incentive for householders and landlords of single residences is a UK Government financial support scheme that has been introduced to encourage uptake on renewable energies, especially aimed at those living off the gas grid. The key objectives are to:

  • to cut carbon emissions
  • help meet renewables targets

The benefits to participants are:

  • receiving money back for installing and running a biomass scheme
  • fuel savings, cutting energy bills
  • reducing dependency on fuels such as oil, gas & electricity
  • self-supply of wood fuel for landowners
  • reduced carbon footprint

The tariff levels have now been set by the Government as follows:

  • 7.3p/kWh for air source heat pumps
  • 12.2p/kWh for biomass boilers
  • 18.8p/kWh for ground source heat pumps
  • at least 19.2 p/kWh for solar thermal

Payments will be made on a quarterly basis for 7 years and will be based on estimated heat demand for the property.  Extra incentive payments are available for metering and monitoring support packages; set at £230 per year for heat pumps and £200 per year for biomass boilers.

To qualify, applicants must have had a Green Deal Assessment and met the minimum loft (250 mm) and cavity wall insulation requirements, where appropriate.  Installations and installer must be MCS certified.
